[Update] We now also include both local and HG visitors in our grid info. We found a bug in the module we use to display grid statistics. This produced arbitrary count for “Online last month” section. We fixed it and stats now display accurate numbers. Bug was reported to the module creator too: https://github.com/ssm2017/d4os/issues/5
Our new server is up and does very well. We’ve been testing several configurations and use cases during the last 6 months and now we are happy we have been able to establish our standards to provide fast, reliable OpenSim services.
Now it’s time to celebrate! Before we start to work on the commercial approach (and make boring calculations for our future production phase), we want to give away a couple more places, to enable wonderful builder to set their home here and suprise us with their creations.
[Update] Regions have been moved succesfully. We have been quiet last days, we must tell you why: we were waiting for our new server. Now it is up and running: an 8 core i7 backed with 24GB RAM and 2TB HD, all this in a cutting-edge datacenter, on an outstanding internet backbone. This will rock!…
We are testing preconfigured viewer. We would greatly appreciate anyone taking 5 minutes to test it. Particularly users who have no account yet on Speculoos grid. No need to create an account, you can use the test account created for this purpose (of course you can also create an account if you feel so). Firstname:…
We have set up mail forwarding of offline messages sent to users of Speculoos grid. Check your mail address in the web profile page (“Edit” tab); Check the option “Send IM to mail” in your viewer preferences (could be in “Chat” or in “Communication” tab). The option is enabled by default. Voilà! The messages you…
Who is behind the keyboard?… Who cares? NPC mania or “and you thought i was fake?” http://iliveisl.com/npc-mania-or-and-you-thought-i-was-fake/ I love how she talks about NPC. Maybe because I use a lot of them in Speculoos. I even like to have a puppet which follows me (when I feel alone?).
In the whole internet OpenSim is not exempt to hackers and griefers. As a young technology, it’s even more exposed.
We have some tools included in the server and the viewer to protect our grids against them. However, to achieve an efficient protection, it would be good to have a centralized service, like the ones existing for smap control, for example.
We feel there is a need to combine our efforts, between grid owners, as wel as server and viewer developers, to set up an efficient solution, which could be easily adopted by standalone or grid maintainer.
Speculoos is now in the ten most active grids. Wow. But that’s not the main concern of Maria Korolov’s article. Here is some kind of “state of the union”, an interesting analysis, not only of the number of grids evolution. It also covers some thoughts about search engines and closed grids challenges. networkedblogs.com/wsKZs
I stopped by the great FleepGrid today, and found giant balls from this dummy ass* Jack Marioline. It’s been years this guy seems having nothing better to do than griefing and trying to ruin others work. The guy tried also to register to our grid recently, but was dropped immediately. I guess he’s trying everywhere he can.
We updated the freebie market, with some more comprehensive sorting, NPC model chooser to preview outfits available, and an indication of the wonderful creators for external content. There is no room for new content. Enjoy! Local link Hypergrid link
